This is in response to the Johor state government-issued order Shopping malls told to focus on Muslim festival, not Christmas .
It is mentioned that more than half of the Malaysian population are Malays and their needs had to be given importance. If the authorities are so fixated on festive decorations according to population percentage, are they ensuring that the quota system be rigidly followed for all festivals?
Last December, KL City Hall or Bandaraya put up Hari Raya decorations in most parts of the city. There were few Christmas decorations; if at all there were just cherries on top of a grand iced cake. For all we know, it may just be following the quota system for festive greetings. What I couldn't understand was why it didn't even have the courtesy to write "Merry Christmas" on their decorations.
I am also disappointed that the authorities did not see the unfairness of hardly any decorations in the shopping malls during the Deepavali festivities.
All the talk about unity is just hot air if we are interested in propagating just one culture.
