Paul Warren is not wrong in his observation of the Malaysian government's inconsistency and double standards in policies.

You see, it has long been the government's stand to treat foreigners better than their own citizenry. As the good book says, take care of the log that's in your eye before you look at the speck in someone else's eyes.

One would have noticed that the streets of KL adorned with plants and greenery - but these have not always been for KLites but definitely for NAM participants. The KLIA was also in tip top operating condition with ushers in coat and tie to welcome the foreigners.

During the Commonwealth Games we had no incidence of haze whatsoever, but every year prior and after the games, Malaysians have to breathe in bad air when the hot season comes along.

The Mahathir government demands justice and freedom for a Burmese opposition, but persecution awaits our own citizenry who oppose the government's policies or even reveal unjust and corrupt practices.

It is a crying shame that the BN cares for somebody on another shore but leaves Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, once the deputy prime minister languishing in solitary confinement and bad health. Anwar is loved and remembered while unjustly locked away even though the ruling party, Umno, whom he served at one time have chosen to forget him.

While Dr Mahathir calls on the Burmese government to release Aung San Suu Kyi, may we remind him to do the same for Anwar.
