It is good that Manjeet Singh Dhillon has now taken his issue to court for final resolution, as reported by malaysiakini , so that everyone can get it over and done with and move to other pressing matters

However, I wish to draw the attention of readers to another lawyer in Perak who has struck a mortal blow against incompetent and moronic local councillors who behave as if they have the God given right to do whatever they like, forgetting that they are not elected by anyone.

Many long suffering consumers and council ratepayers such as myself have always wished for some pissed off lawyer somewhere would undertake a crusade against the normal everyday hindrances to our lives. Apparently there are many who have began doing that earnestly.

An example would be the many pro bono lawyers acting on behalf of aggrieved house buyers whose victory in the Housing Tribunal was challenged by unscrupulous developers. Another is the lawyer who is suing everybody under the sun for allowing his car to be submerged in flood waters due to negligence in maintaining the drains. This is what the public wants to see.

I therefore wish to applaud a certain Mr Terence Naidu, who successfully defended himself on the charge of not feeding coins to metres, when it was clear as daylight that the metres were faulty. I believe congratulations are in order for this man's refusal to roll over and paying the usual RM30 fine.

An important precedent was set by the court, in that it is not the motorist's duty to ensure that he parks in bays which has working metres, but it is the responsibility of the local council to ensure gazetted parking bays has metres that works.

I am sure Mr Naidu was greatly inconvenienced as he had to deal with this matter when he may have had more pressing and lucrative work from fee paying customers. In fact it is a bit cheeky of the council to waste taxpayer's money and cost by dragging this matter through the court in the first place. Shame on you.

Consumers hope that all lawyers will be taking up issues that concerns consumers at large, which is truly a national service issue, together with other everyday pressing bread and butter stuff. May many others follow the fine example of Mr Naidu.
