I read with contempt the letter written by BlueRider. As a non-Malay I believe that the likes of BlueRider masquerading in sheep's clothing is nothing new - be it the past, present and, possibly, the future.

It has been a well-admitted fact that most non-Malays have always been loyal and committed to the Barisan Nasional concept. Even Dr Mahathir Mohamad admitted that without the non-Malays, the Barisan may have lost the last election.

We, the non-Malays (mostly) do not change ships in mid-ocean like the likes of BlueRider. After the recent elections, Pak Lah made a statement to the effect that the living standards of hardcore poor Malays need to be uplifted. Even non-Malay Barisan leaders accepted and agreed to this.

Unlike the analogy provided by BlueRider, the reason why the Malays abandoned PAS this time around was the fact that other than sermons, PAS will not be able to provide in a material sense and that most Malays in Terengganu and Kelantan are fed-up with the PAS administration.

I am ready to be thankful to all Malaysians, irrespective of race and religion, who believe that in this land of ours we have to co-exist with mutual respect for each other. But not to persons like BlueRider who simply wastes away his time dreaming.

Let me enlighten you on something else, too. PAS, arrogant and uncompromising as it has always been, decided that it can stand on its own with the support of the Malays and thereby choose to antagonise the non-Malays.

Its leaders believed that the Malays would loyally support them. Well, the lessons any political party would have learnt from previous elections is this - bank on the non-Malays and you are almost assured of their loyalty.

We do not swing our votes without due reason. For us, loyalty, trust, commitment and above all, stability are the most important issues. When Razaleigh Hamzah formed Semangat 46, most of us (non-Malays) stuck to Barisan. During the Anwar saga, we still supported Barisan. Surely BlueRider has no moral right to preach to us.

As a parting shot, BlueRider may ponder on this thought. When Pak Lah declared that he is the PM not only for the Malays but also the non-Malays, we believed him. When he sent Christmas cards, we did not think of it as a gimmick. When he sent Chinese New Year cards, we did not think of it as a gimmick. All we saw was (and is) the true spirit of the man.
