Three days ago, a lone (well, let’s hope he was) gunman held captive 17 people (mostly non-Muslim) in a cafe in Australia and eventually killed two of them. Perkasa and PAS didn’t condemn his action up to today.

Yesterday the Taliban massacred more than 100 Muslim children in a school in Pakistan. Isma didn’t express sympathy.

In October 2014, a Muslim terrorist ran over a few soldiers in Canada. Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) didn’t issue any press statement to express disgust.

On Dec 10, 2014, a Palestinian former terrorist now turned minister died of a heart attack while protesting against Israel. PKR, PAS and Perkasa all jumped up screaming bloody murder. (Some say the minister was roughed up by the Israeli forces but Palestinian medics themselves confirmed he died of a heart attack.) I'm not sure if a young minister in our cabinet walked to the US embassy to protest this incident, as he often does in similar incidents.

The incidents such as above clearly show the hypocrisy of politics in Malaysia. There is clearly a bias towards the cause (no matter how vile and rotten the actions are) of the majority religion here and all attempts, including state sanctioned ones, are made to bedevil the West, and in particular, Israel.

The truth is, the only country in the Middle East where Muslims are actually happy and feel safe in is, Israel (a survey showed 79 percent of Muslims there will not go to other Muslim countries if they were allowed to). Why can't our half-baked NGOs and politicians understand that the way the situation is over in the Middle East, should not be imported into Malaysia blindly. If you wish to express your concern, do it without the offensive tie to race and religion.

On a broader scale, the minority here is watching all these unjust show of support and the more the extremists play it up, the social divide is bound to expand in the face of unfair application of social justice. If the PM is actually watching and hearing the ground sentiments, he should immediately put a stop to these one upmanship by the insane radicals in Malaysia. Let the other governments deal with their own extremists.

The silence of the hypocrisy exhibited by the establishment and moderates, is terribly deafening.

RAMESH RAJARATNAM is concerned that the voice of the radicals is louder than that of the moderates in Malaysia.
