What else do they want to declare as 'haram' now?
Being a moderate Muslim in my actions, outlook and words, and without harbouring any political agenda, I felt shocked and taken aback by the declaration by the Council of Malaysian Muftis that TV3's 'Sure Heboh' Carnival is 'haram' (against the wishes and the teachings of Islam).
I simply could not believe myself that such an activity has been declared as 'haram'. Political leaders who are fond of using Islam as their propaganda tools, had never before instigated the muftis to declare an entertainment event as 'haram'. The big question mark is why did TV3's Sure Heboh become a target?
TV3 is to be praised for its noble effort and aim in organising the 'Sure Heboh' carnival throughout the country, partly for the benefit of the unfortunates. Therefore, the ruling by the muftis is uncalled for and untimely.
The grounds given that the carnival undermines the values of young Muslims is really unfounded and unjustifiable. If this be the case than the minds, ears and eyes of all Muslims are required to be closed all the time for Muslims are easy prey, vulnerable and susceptible to all vices.
I have one question for the Mufti of Perak: Where would you, Dato' Seri Harussani Zakaria, stand if a mufti accepts a piece of land (one acre) that he never applied for near the Bukit Merah Lake Town resort in Perak?
Would it not be better for the land to be given to the poor and the landless?
