'Thanks to the Almighty!' That was my first statement upon hearing of Anwar Ibrahim's release from his prison sentence. I sincerely believe that his release signifies a new political dawn for Malaysia, an absolutely different one under Pak Lah.

Since I met Anwar as a student 19 years ago, I knew deep in my heart that he was destined to be a great leader. I pray that he will recuperate from his chronic back pain, regain his strength and be back with us again and be an inspiration to every one working to make Malaysia a wonderful place to live in.

For those who believe that Anwar is no longer relevant, look at the evidence against it- the spontaneous street party that erupted near his house, the constant stream of visitors and wellwishers eager to meet the man after six long years and the abrupt rise in Bursa Malaysia's composite index on the news of his release.

All these point to the fact that Anwar is still regarded as a charismatic leader despite all the humiliation and suffering he has suffered over the last six years. Even the Saudi Arabian government wanted to send a private jet for him to get to Germany.

It just goes to show that Anwar Ibrahim is not an ordinary man. He is an extraordinary leader ... who is now back with us again.

I celebrated my birthday yesterday 'super-duper happy' - to borrow Nurul Ilham's cheerful reply to John R Malott's question over the phone asking her how she felt. Anwar Ibrahim's release was the best birthday present I ever received.

Welcome back, Anwar! We missed you a lot. Let's make Malaysia great once more!
