In reply to Arbibi Ashoy's Muslims misinformed about Islam , I would like to begin by pointing out the obvious. That the onus is on Muslims to make Islam attractive to all. In today's world, scepticism, secular humanism and scientific progressivism has made religion unattractive.

We no longer blindly accept religious dogma as 'unquestionable absolute truths'. Religious dogma - like all claims - is subject to thorough rational analysis.

On that note, let me say that Islam does condemn 'the Unbelievers' to hell. It is stated in the Quran as well as the Hadiths, that the disbelievers are destined to hellfire. The crime here being one of disbelief. That if you disbelieve in Islam when it is brought to you, then you are worthy of hellfire.

Arbibi is more than welcome to research this. Now allow me to address some of the other points he (Arbibi) raises. Firstly, although segregation of the sexes is not articulated in the Quran, it is however implied in the Hadiths.

Indeed that is what is practiced in Saudi Arabia and many parts of the Middle East today. As a matter of fact, it was not so long ago when PAS suggested something similar.

Secondly, Darwinian evolution is a mature scientific theory that is generally accepted by the scientific community. There are many excellent books available - both popular layman and technical ones - that explain the basis and evidences of evolution.

Religionists have always rejected evolution because it destroys the belief in creation by an all-powerful God. It's an emotional rejection because evolution provides evidence contrary to the most basic pillar of religion.

My question to Arbibi would be: since when did the scientific community - especially the biological community - find evolutionary theory to be flawed or inadequate?

Finally, I did not make fun of the adultery laws of Islamic Syariah. But I did imply that it is out of sync with today's social conditions and values. I stand by this.

Women work and socialise with men. The state cannot go around preaching Victorian morals into the family life of its citizens.

To conclude, Muslims have to engage in more dialogue with people from other faiths (or no faith at all) in order to realise that other belief systems also have their strengths and weaknesses just as Islam does.
