It’s a question that should be arising after the letter of ‘British Expat’ was circulated on Whatsapp. However, it shall not be taken lightly nor seen as a glass half-empty nor half-full by Malaysians.
Regardless of the years the ‘expat’ has lived in Malaysia, he has seen the worst aspects of the nation and he is right. We do not have a prominent leader after Najib Abdul Razak. We as a nation are not prepared for a change if we can’t even keep together and unite as Malaysians.
A wise leader once said “be the change you want to see in the world”, that man is none other than Mahatma Gandhi. A change is never permanent. If we, as a nation, strive for peace, crying democracy for the people, then we should learn to take a step back from the chaos and before criticising others, learn to change ourselves to be a better person.
As of now, there is no one to replace Najib. Malaysians must come to our senses before it’s too late. Jumping into a sea of uncertainty is only a time-bomb ticking and waiting to explode.
Our country’s number two is nowhere to be seen as a leader if Najib were to be deemed guilty over the recent scandal. Hiding in his closet and not even commenting on the 1MDB issue just shows how he (Muhyiddin Yassin) does not want to lose his credibility with the people by uttering words favouring the PM.
If you’re still thinking what needs to be changed for Malaysians, ask yourselves this question. When was the last time you jokingly uttered slurs to friends of another race or religion? For your group of friends, it may seem like a harmless joke but if this was spoken at a public place, let’s face it, you’d be in the soup, my friend, and be called racist.
Rather than concluding the outcomes of what our nation is facing, let’s just change ourselves before we ask others to ‘not be racist’.
