With regards to the controversy over influential blogger Jeff Ooi , let me categorically state here that the message posted by 'Anwar' was mischievous and should not be tolerated at all. But why such personal attacks on Ooi who merely provides a forum?

If someone is to spray graffiti on my house wall hurling obscenities at someone else, am I responsible? Jeff to his credit has already issued a statement condemning Anwar's transgression. I would even suggest that someone may be just planning to sabotage Ooi's blog.

I think Ooi should make a police report of his own, saying that he does not condone such vile thinking and someone is being mischievous.

That aside, why is there now a media frenzy in the New Straits Times group about this diabolical statement made by some imbecile? What I find extremely hilarious is that their group editor-in-chief, Kalimullah Hassan, refers to Ooi as a 'somewhat unknown blogger' .

Don't get me wrong, I think for many parts, the New Straits Times is actually a very decent paper with interesting news though some of its columnists leave a lot to be desired.

But for an unknown blogger, it looks like the full force of Balai Berita is being employed to castigate poor Ooi. Why such hostile treatment for some unknown? Is it to divert the attention from the chauvinist statement by one Badruddin? Or just to erase from public memory the issue of money politics ?

In any case, I think it is over the top for the Home Ministry to jump on the bandwagon and issue a threat to use the draconian ISA on people who insult Islam.

I don't condone religious bigotry and in fact I am disgusted with such attitudes be they against Muslims, Christians or Hindus. But why the ISA? Why not charge them in open court? And may I also ask why an ISA threat has not been made against Badruddin?

Why has Deputy Internal Security Minister Noh Omar only threatened Ooi and not Badruddin? Is it because they belong to the same political party?

On a more delightful note, it is good to note that the newly-elected (or should I say appointed?) Umno Youth deputy leader Khairy Jamaluddin has said that they will refrain from making a police report over Jeff Ooi and they are willing to have a healthy debate. That is refreshing.

At the end of the day, it appears that a lot of people using a lot of resources have spent a lot of time (including getting opinions from London where Khairy and Kalimullah are currently) to attack what is termed a 'relatively unknown blogger'.

So, if someone is unknown then isn't Balai Berita now responsible for making that person known? Perhaps this unknown blogger is not that unknown after all?
