As one of the users affected greatly by the closure of the MRR2 , I have been following the investigation and reports given by all parties in regards to the matter.
Recently, the consultants appointed to investigate the cause of the cracks reported that the cracks were due to design fault. Regardless of what the Minister of Works had said before the report was out, it has now been determined that it is a design fault.
If the design is the cause of the cracks, why is the contractor being asked to absorb the repair cost? The contractor built the bridge according to the design approved by the Works Ministry.
If anyone is to absorb the cost of repair, it should to be the Works Ministry for failing to detect the design fault when submitted by the designer.
I wonder if the Works Ministry has, in the first place, the capability to study design and detect faults? The Works Minister has said that he is not talking out of the blue, and that he is fully qualified in these matters.
If that is the case, why was the MRR2 design approved in the first place?
All said and done, I hope that work to rectify the faults is started and completed as soon as possible, because at the end of the day it is the users who are being affected.
I, together with many of other residents staying in the vicinity, are suffering from the inconvenience caused by the closure.
Not the Works Minister.
