Saudara Najib, I have followed your commentaries on social media which paid high respects to the sacrifice of your father, Abdul Rahman Hashim, who was killed in action. Indeed, I myself feel fortunate to live in a Malaysia that is filled with courageous warriors who would die for the country.
The people of Malaysia are eternally indebted to these warriors. Whether as the inspector-general of police (IGP) or constable, the blood that is spilled is priceless. The blood red colour shows that these patriots do not fear death.
Yet I was taken aback when you belittled the authority and undermined the leadership of Khalid Abu Bakar by comparing him to your late father. In all honesty, you have to realise that every IGP has their own strengths. And these strengths are what has collectively built up the Royal Malaysian Police to what it is now. They each have their own strengths.
Do not belittle or undermine any IGP as they have each left their dhoby mark which should be commemorated and honoured. Bear in mind that the IGP is an institution, not individuals.
Look around you. Are the people of Malaysia living in fear? In a situation where neighbouring countries are rocked by sounds of explosions and corpses lie everywhere due to terrorist attacks and militant groups, Malaysians can still go about their daily lives without the fear of being sacrificed by evil elements. That is the true measure of the authority and leadership of the IGP now. That is the leadership benchmark of the IGP now.
I was also aggrieved when you questioned the transfer of Hamid Bador, former deputy Special Branch director. How much do you know about what truly transpired behind closed doors?
Or were there some invisible hands or Si Kitol which skewed your perception until you became lost in the fog of uncertainty which came from your sentiments being played with? Or did you not realise that you’ve been manipulated into triggering polemics with the intention of ruining the reputation of the police force and the IGP specifically?
I am not a mercenary who was given a boon to write this open letter, neither do I have any ties with the IGP. Yet my spirit and love for this team is without depth, after seeing the sacrifices that has been made including your own father. This is because I am still sane and can see with open eyes and an open heart. And I would never insult the Royal Malaysian Police which indirectly caused me to be raised in a safe and peaceful country.
Saudara Najib, please research some facts before you speak. Don’t just believe whatever you are told. Hamid Bador actually has made an official request to retire early. Yet for personal reasons only he would be able to answer, he withdrew that earlier request. I myself would not want to make any assumptions but please think about the situation at hand - requesting and then retracting the request and then being appointed as deputy director of Security and Transnational Issues?
Saudara Najib, please do not also raise the issue that the IGP did not defend Hamid Bador. His willingness to accept a request to retract an early retirement request is also a form of charity on his part. Is it not so? How was Hamid betrayed? Try asking how many of his fellow squadmates carry the rank of commissioner, like him?
Invisible hands were very mistaken
You also made a misleading statement when you said Dr Mahathir Mohamad is being investigated by the police for joining the Bersih rally. My goodness, these invisible hands were very mistaken when they fed you the information. Or did you not read the actual story?
Read. Read and re-read the IGP's statement. Dr M was called to give his statement regarding several allegations he made in his speech about misappropriation in political parties. Do you understand now? Or would you rather the IGP does nothing about the misappropriation?
It is enough that I have brought you up to speed. Think about it, please.
Do not place the blame or negative assumption on Khalid Abu Bakar so easily by comparing him to the leadership of your father. I would not dare to do so but you proudly did so, saying that your late father would never have done the same thing as the current IGP in several issues.
The times and situations are far different between then and now, friend. Do not compare. The country now faces all sorts of security threats and the IGP can still stand strong even though he is being prodded everywhere by people with hidden agendas.
Now, I would like to question your credibility. I understand your intentions of honouring the sacrifice of your late father. This is what a filial son would do, but I do not agree for one second the way you are trying to ruin the image of the current IGP. Keep in mind, he is a father as well.
What is for certain is that things have changed drastically since the time of your late father and Khalid now. Please do not embarrass your father, who I too look up to, with such comments and statements. They only show that you have lost the blood of the police running through your veins. Most importantly, ask yourself whether the late Rahman would be proud of what you are doing now.
I will write again for certain, to counter any remarks against everyone in the police force as well as the millions of Malaysian people who have high regard for the police force. For I, too, was born from the blood of a hero.
