The statement by Jamal Md Yunus, the spokesperson for the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu red-shirt gathering, demanding that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) re-delineate and allocate 50 percent of stalls at the Petaling Street for the Malays allegedly to be in line with the equal sharing of rights and resources, is surprising.

It is a ridiculous demand wherein someone demands to have a share in the the fruits of others’ labour without him putting in any efforts himself.

In addition, the statement also tried to undermine the Chinese Malaysians' contribution towards national economy all this while.

We wish to remind Jamal Yunus that the economic success Malaysia enjoys today is a result of the hard work by all races in their respective capacity, fields and positions.

All races have been working hand-in-hand with mutual respect so that our generations to come could reap and share the economic fruits.

We have many renowned bumiputera, Chinese and Indian entrepreneurs who shine and excel in their respective fields and who could still communicate with and learn from each other.

With their own ability and perseverance, they build their own success. In this society and business environment of free competition, everybody can make his own day with his own effort.

On the other hand, there is no such thing as concession of resources. In Malaysia, the same resources are shared among the races without restriction.

We must advise Jamal that one must work for his own business destiny.

Petaling Street does not have any restrictions barring bumiputera traders to open up business there. Business space is strictly dependent on availability and the local business environmental factors.

We are puzzled with his statement as well.

If his claim that the hawkers there are all selling counterfeits, adult DVDs and fake items is anything to go by, then why must he threaten to get 50 percent of the stalls?

Is it in line with his religious teaching? And why did DBKL not take action and need his reminder?

Truth be told, Jamal’s integrity as the co-organiser for the red shirts rally is questionable.

He started with defending Malays’ dignity and making racial statements and barring the participation of Chinese.

Then he made an about-turn to welcome all races and subsequently tried to alienate himself from those red-shirted demonstrators who attempted to intrude into Petaling Street before defending their unruly actions in the end.

As such, it is clear that he has no consistency in his stance and as such, is not trustworthy at all.

MCA Youth hereby makes the last urging to Jamal to stop all the mess and cease making seditious statements belittling and insulting Chinese Malaysians.

Whoever making stupid statements harmful to racial harmony and national stability will have to face the law.

Once again, we call upon the police to immediately take action against Jamal and prosecute him under the Sedition Act.

LEONG KIM SOON is MCA Youth secretary-general.
