I wish to comment on the letter Misplaced priorities of Arabs in which the writer castigated the Arab people for not doing enough for the tsunami victims.

Please realise that the Arab people have no voice because they are merely puppets ruled by the Western powers. The truth is that no Arab leader in this world has been democratically elected except for Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Algeria nearly became a democracy when it held an election won by the FIS (Islamic Salvation Front). However, France gave moral, financial and military support to the military junta to nullify the election results, execute the FIS leaders, ban the FIS party and then throw thousands of FIS supporters into prison.

The most vocal man in Egypt, blind cleric Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman who demanded an end to the dictatorial rule of the US-backed president in Egypt is currently in a US jail. Another who opposed King Abdullah's reign and wanted democratic change in Jordan is being detained without trial in the UK.

So, when people talk about the 'misplaced priorities of Arabs', are they referring to the general Arab population who have no say in the running of their country or the Arab monarchs and dictators handpicked by Western governments?

As for the article When Muslims suffer, it's the West that helps out recommended by Peace Lover, I found it inaccurate to the point of deception.

When Bosnian Serbs waged war against Bosnian Muslims, the first country to come to the aid of the Muslims was Iran. The West reacted by getting the United Nations to impose a military arms embargo against Bosnia.

The US and Britain intercepted Iranian arms shipments to Bosnian Muslims but allowed Russia to continue giving arms to the Serbs. Thus, the Bosnian Muslims became disadvantaged which resulted in them being slaughtered by the thousands.

The United Nations then authorised peacekeepers to protect Muslim enclaves. Once again, Iran offered the largest contingent of peacekeepers but this was rejected by the United Nations.

Instead, only peacekeepers from Christian nations were allowed into Bosnia. When Serb soldiers attacked Srebnica, the peacekeepers fled resulting in the horrific massacre of thousands of unarmed Bosnian Muslims, the worst act of genocide since World War II.
