I refer to your report 90 Indonesian workers cry foul over salary non-payment .
I find the Malaysian government's reaction simply disgusting. The Indonesian government is doing the right thing in helping their workers in claiming their accrued salaries. I hope to think that as a Malaysian citizen, if I ever get cheated while living outside Malaysia, Wisma Putra will come to my assistance in the same manner.
It is shocking for our ministers to suggest that the Indonesian workers return home empty-handed. Would our minister forgo his salary? I think not.
I support the Indonesian government's move to file suits against Malaysian firms that employ illegal migrants but then refuse to pay them their dues. Being an illegal migrant worker does not mean one is without rights.
If they were without rights, then it would be not be against the law to rape or kill illegal workers. But an illegal working as a prostitute cannot claim payment because the work itself is illegal. However, illegals working at construction sites are not engaging in any illegal work. As such they have sufficient consideration to bring a suit against their employers.
Unless, of course, our courts declare that their work done is illegal, which means that the houses and buildings that those illegals were working on are also illegal and should be demolished!
I hope our government will settle this matter amicably with the rights of all illegal workers being safeguarded. We are dangerously close to getting a reputation as a nation that degrades, overworks and abuses its foreign nationals.
This will not be good for Malaysians living abroad.
