The Selangor menteri besar's lame excuses on the causes of the wanton destruction surrounding Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agricultural Park in Shah Alam are to be expected. It is a standard narration for our political masters to blame all and sundry when mishaps or misdeeds occurs but they will claim credit for themselves if successes occur.

It doesn't take a genius to find out that there may be something wrong with our enforcement units if the officers could not see the destruction occurring near the nature park and not to do something before it got out of hand.

As chief executive of the state concerned, the menteri besar should not wash his hands of this matter. Mohd Khir Toyo's recent statement that 'everything is okay' is, in fact, not okay in the eyes of the prime minister and the public at large.

Selangor with its rapid development has seen green lungs in secondary forests being destroyed while rivers, which were previously pristine clear, are now unclean due to illegal sand mining activities.

Cheras and Sungai Buloh, once green areas in the 80s, have lost their lustre the result of which are flash floods and heat waves as Mother Nature takes revenge on us.

Sometime I wonder what has happened to the rule of law in this country. Why is it that land clearing, illegal logging and general destruction of our natural heritage can go on and on without anyone stopping them?

Khir Toyo has made the same mistake his predecessors had made, that is to alienate large tracts of land in the name of development for those close to him. He will eventually suffer the same fate as those before him who thought that the post they held was is a licence to print money for their own selfish needs.

Hopefully, one good thing about this incident is that remaining green areas will be spared further destruction if the chief ministers of other states heed the prime minister's call to ensure that go development was done in harmony with nature.

The only persons who will then weep will be the greedy developers and their political masters who will then have to think hard on new ways to make easy money given that land alienation for development won't be so easy to come by.

And now, Khir Toyo has leaped from the frying pan into fire with the latest revelation being that a multi-million ringgit private enclave has been built for the exclusive use of the Selangor state exco.

It would seem that powerful political forces are out to get the Selangor menteri besar to vacate his seat in favour of a new person who will be more political inclined to the prime minister.

No sir, everything is not okay for the Selangor menteri besar.
