This is my reply to Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Rafii.

Dear Mohd Razlan Rafii,

I finally got sick of hearing similar speeches and finally, I’m voicing it out. I’m a Malaysian student, a Malaysian student from a National School, and this is my definition of democracy from reading our very own textbooks certified and distributed by the Malaysian government.

Dear Sir,

Firstly, being a country practising democracy, we, the people have our rights. Yes it is true, the Barisan National coalition won the general election clean and fair, but what happens if the representative of the ruling coalition is under heavy pressure amidst allegations and might be involved in “the largest kleptocracy case”, the US Justice Department (DOJ) apparently said that.

Then, the people of Malaysia can go to the streets to show that they’re fed up of the government, or whatever they’re protesting against and demand so and so. Frankly speaking, we, the people of a democratic country, such as Malaysia, are allowed to protest or demonstrate, for any reason.

I don’t understand your logic of “it is wrong to urge an official to step down or to overthrow the government” Why... Why can't we? And why shouldn’t we if we’re not happy about the party’s leadership?

Adding on, let's take Bersih 4 for an instance. It was so hilarious to declare Bersih 4 illegal. Can these T-shirts blow-up? Can these T-shirts hypnotise someone? Or are these T-shirts made from radioactive materials? Here’s the point, Bersih 4 is a classic example of Malaysians, coming together as family, or as what our very own and respected prime minister says, 1Malaysia.

I’m the new generation, we are the new generation, and we, unfortunately, are upset with how the country is going and, we are demanding change, as simple as that. Its not wrong, we’re attending a peaceful demonstration, smiling, taking care of each other, and together in numbers, we are asking for clean and fair elections.

Don’t you think its childish of you to say, you'll be coming down to go face Bersih 5 if they decide to rally anyway? So does that mean, if the police don’t take action against, your so-called “undemocratic way of demonstrating”, are you and your friends going to uphold the country’s peace with an iron fist? Are you actually threatening us?

As some more History lessons for you and all those in Malaysia. Back in 1946, Malayan Union was formed. Wasn’t this wrong, since we’re overthrowing a government? Here are the exact words from Malaysia’s very own History textbook.

“Orang Melayu juga bimbang akan kehilangan warisan tamadun yang telah dibina oleh kerajaan Melayu seperti Kesultanan Melayu Melaka. Bagi mereka, pengenalan Malayan Union akan menghapuskan sejarah yang dibina oleh kerajaan tersebut. Lantaran itu kebanyakan orang Melayu menentang Malayan Union dengan mengadakan demonstrasi secara besar-besaran.”

Since the Malays did not want to lose their legacy, they and together the people of Malaya protested against the implementation of the Malayan Union? Just imagine if you were there back during 1946, will today be Malayan Union or Malaysia, your say, dear Sir.
