Introduce comparative religions in schools instead

I am of the opinion that no religion should be taught in schools. Unless it is the study of comparative religions where all students study together about the various beliefs of the main religions.

That would instil more understanding and tolerance than the three-month National Service scheme which is being held for 18 year olds. At their age, all the damage has been done.

Let parents take care of the religious responsibilities for their own children. We have depended too much on the government to do too many things. Let's face it, they can't even solve major problems like illegal immigrants, diesel smuggling, corruption etc.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has said it is a policy for one religion to be taught in schools but look at the major problems this has created - racial polarisation and a nation that has strong racist undercurrents despite the 'feel good' national-level festive events where everyone gets a free meal.

And is moral education really necessary? For a small minority, I think it would help but most humans have a built-in sense to determine what is right or wrong. Besides, parents should be the primary educators of children as far as moral values are concerned.

We should not give the authorities too much power to govern all aspects of our lives. They've had their chance for the past 40-odd years and now just look at the major mess we are in.
