My mother is 90 years old. She had a fall and broke her hip bone and cannot walk. In my income tax form I stated I had bought some items of equipment for my mother.
The Income Tax Department says I cannot claim exemption, and stated that even though my mother is 90 years old she must have the OKU (disabled person) card and only then will they give exemption.
That means all old people who fall and break their bones must apply for OKU cards. Only then can they get exemption. This is ridiculous and silly.
Most members of the public like me are not aware of this. I have received a letter from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) asking me to pay taxes for what I had purchased in 2011.
