Royal Malaysian Police deputy director of management (training) DCP T Narenasagaran has disclosed that some police officers had 40 percent of their salary deducted to repay loans.

There are reasons to believe that many civil servants are also in the same boat, as government officers can easily secure loans if they agree to salary deductions for repayments.

At today’s inflated prices, it is difficult enough to cope with the increased cost of living, and taking a loan for extra comfort or luxury would be courting disaster.

If one cannot get by on a full salary, how could a person manage with 40 percent less?

Out of desperation, even those who are honest would succumb to corruption, and this is exactly what is happening to millions of Malaysians who have taken non-business loans or overspent their credit facilities.

With an ecosystem that continues to churn out greed and indiscipline, our Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will be fighting a losing battle.
