I refer to the article 'Predictable' Mahathir at Suhakam do .
The West's faults do not make Mahathir a saint. I am absolutely against the antics, hypocrisy and inconsistency of the United States and its allies in their unjust and illegal wars - military or economic - and their promotion of their own myopic versions of human rights.
But unlike him, I cannot and do not hide my personal, my religious community's, my culture's, and my nation's blatant infringement of human rights by raving and ranting against the wrongdoings of others without admission of my own faults.
Therein lies the world of difference between him and his cronies, and others of us whether in Malaysia or anywhere else. Two wrongs do not make one right. Simply because you can point out other people's faults does not make you a saint.
You don't light your own candle by putting other people's candle out. Any success on your part does not exonerate you from blatant faults of your own. The West's faults do not make you right. The human rights' violations of Mahathir are too numerous to be glossed or glazed over, and they cannot and should not be forgotten.
Those who understand and value universal human rights will know the enduring pain and grief of those whose basic human rights have been violated by a person who now delights in going around preaching and espousing "human rights" to others, branding the one person who dared stand up to him as 'gay', and calling NGOs gullible.
He loves putting others in the dock but is himself never put in the dock, never having or wanting to answer to tough questions about himself. He loves to shame and malign others but is himself shameless. Why is this so?
Must all of Malaysia still dance to his tune, still listen to him, still believe in him, still respect him, still give him unquestionable acclaim? Does he still speak for Malaysia? Should he still be provided a pulpit where his light can burn on while he sets out to put other people's light out? Enough is enough. Sudah-lah .
Isn't it time for him to be compelled to answer for his faults which have adversely impacted so many individual lives as well as the nation's? Are there no more Malaysians brave, honest and wise enough to see through the man's bluff and join the few there are who have been prepared to call a spade a spade?
Where in our midst is the little child who alone in the whole kingdom saw and called out for all to hear that the emperor's new clothes is in fact no clothes at all?
