LETTER | I refer to the Malaysiakini report Lawyer Siti Kasim arrested for obstruction over 'kidnapped' client which happened at the Kajang district police headquarters.

The wrongful arrest by police reminded me of an incident which happened just late last year.

In August 2017, a conman reported to the IPD Kajang that he was blackmailed and threatened by my driver in May 2017.

From May 2017 to August 2017, he was still friends with my driver.

The investigating officer arrested my driver and put him in the lock-up without hearing his side of the story, investigating further or even taking down his statement.

On arrival at the police station, his MyKad was taken away and he was told that he had been remanded. He was handcuffed and asked to change into the lock-up attire.

After 24 hours, the magistrate refused to extend the remand order and ordered his release. Upon his release, he was told "Sorry, you mangsa keadaan" (a victim of circumstances).

Every investigating officer should go down to the ground and investigate.

A report from a person cannot be taken as the truth just as a statement from an accused also cannot be taken as the truth.

The job of an investigating officer is not a desk job.

Many people are wrongfully remanded and will be sitting in the lock-up until the magistrate looks at the police remand request and throws it out.

Handcuffed and sitting in a lock-up in orange garb in a stinky cell with other hardcore criminals can leave a scar on a person forever.

I have to date lodged a complaint with the OCPD, the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission and the inspector-general of police.

I urge the new government to look into this seriously.
