I followed with interest the ongoing discussion on the issue of Muslim maids vs non-Muslim maids and I can understand the views of Husin Tapa in wanting to help his own kind and therefore insist his maids must be a Muslim.
But he goes on to add that the maid should be teaching his kids about solat , sex education, how to read the Quran and almost everything else that are parents' responsibility. If those qualities are what Husin is looking for, shouldn't he be looking for a qualified personal tutor rather than a maid?
What qualification does a maid from Indonesia has that she can handle sex education? Taking his discussion a little further, when his children are of school-going age, will he insist that all his child's school teachers not be of other faiths?
If you want a maid, get a maid. If you want a live-in tutor for your kids, get a live-in tutor. And remember that most of parenting can never be delegated to maids or live-in tutors.
