I refer to the former attorney-general's call for judges to be bold .
There used to be saying written into every employee's handbook:
Rule No 1: The boss is always right.
Rule No 2: If the boss is not right, refer to rule No 1.
Our judges are there at the pleasure of the King. Nothing wrong with that but for judges to be bold, they need to be free of this.
Time is due for amendments to the status quo, at least for the top judges. Follow the steps of the US Supreme Court, where they are confirmed by the Senate (or Parliament) and then have the post for life, or at least till a comfortable retirement age.
