Thank you for the interesting and tasty letters in your opinion pages on dogs and responsible pet ownership lately.
Whilst many of them have given readers like me plenty of food for thought, I notice that some writers appear to have gone beyond their limits to speak on behalf of veterinary doctors. I wonder how much of the comments, particularly on dog health and care, are medically sound.
Some of the letters criticising the high costs of veterinary bills have put animal doctors in Malaysia in a bad light, giving an impression that they are more interested in money than actually caring for their animals.
Strangely enough, none of the vet bodies like the Malaysian Small Animal Veterinary Association (Msava), which I'm told represents about 200 registered vets in the country, have cared enough to respond to all these burning issues.
Is the organisation being muzzled as well, I wonder?
Don't these vets realise that strict laws on dogs will also affect their rice bowls in the long run when there will come a time when there won't be enough dogs to go around their clinics.
