M Kayveas, the deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, claims that there are corrupt practices prevailing in the local councils. We need to respect this honourable deputy minister for bringing this matter to light although most Malaysians are aware that there could be some truth to his allegations since this his second outburst on the local councils.
I fully applaud his concern to get rid of corruption in the public sector, in line with the vision and aspirations of our honourable prime minister.
What most Malaysians would want to see is for Kayveas to make public the names of the culprits or to make a police report naming these culprits, so that the relevant authorities could investigate and punish those who had been guilty of this crime. I support the call made by the MP for Bentong, Liow Tong Lai on this matter and his calling upon Kayveas to name the culprits involved.
Kayveas, after all, may have an ulterior political motive. He wants to be a full minister (the talk among his supporters) and he hopes that by bringing these sort of sensitive matters public, he is a step towards achieving it.
If Kayveas fails to substantiate his allegations by making public the culprits, the Barisan Nasional leadership should suspend or expel him for making a mockery of and undermining the minister and his officials at the housing and local government ministry.
