I write to augment the letter titled 'Explosive' articles needed for maturity .
I would in fact say that bold articles are needed for our very existence as a society. Why do I say so?
Learning is a social phenomenon. The crab syndrome is one of Malaysia's biggest enemies. The crab syndrome is when a bunch of the weak-willed join together to pull down inner-strength rich thinkers, therefore making it much more worthwhile for many of the latter with acumen to go overseas.
Bold articles raise the bar on how accurate our perceptiveness of reality is. If wrong, they provoke contrary perceptions and in time we get closer to the truth.
Asia (minus Japan) has not produced a single quantum invention since the times of Admiral Zheng He in 1400 AD, when before that it was responsible for nearly all of the major inventions.
We must ask what are the topmost reasons for this? What caused this mental soil rot? Might it take many, many more bold malaysiakinis for us to crack the crab syndrome? To bring back the ingredients that will make us bold, imaginative and inventive again? That will prevent us from continuing down the path of being second-hand Americanised or Arabised beings?
