The combo shuttle bus service departing every 30 minutes from Putra Heights LRT station to KLIA or KLIA2 is meant to provide affordable public transportation to travellers.
But while seemingly a good service it is not the answer.
As it is, there is a 30-minute waiting time for the bus to come to the LRT Station to pick up the passengers. So, provided the bus is available at the station every 30 minutes and that the bus makes its way promptly to the airport, then travellers should reach the destination in another 40 minutes. This adds up to 1 hour 10 minutes.
This is not all. Most travellers coming from other places need to get to the LRT station to catch the combo shuttle bus. The nearest town is in Subang Jaya. Unfortunately, the way in is a short distance but due to road diversions and one-way drive, it will take another 20 minutes to get to Putra Heights. Thus the location is not ideal and not convenient to travellers living in Subang Jaya and Bandar Sunway.
So, the estimated travelling time should come out to 1 hour 30 minutes, provided there are no traffic jams on the road to Putra Heights or along the highway to the airport.
It is still considered too much time to take the combo shuttle bus to the airport though it costs only RM10 per person for a one-way trip.
How about having one bus at the pick-up point on standby that is ready to go as soon as there is a set of full passengers? Or increasing the frequency of departures to every 10 minutes?
Putra Heights LRT station is designated a public transportation hub, but it is situated in a place with the wrong logistics.
By the way, I would like to suggest an additional pick-up area, taking off from the SS18 LRT station to move onwards to the Putra Height LRT station. This would mean there are two pick-up points for passengers taking the combo shuttle bus service to KLIA and KLIA2.
