As an MIC member, I am embarrassed at the way the MIC women's wing is handling the contest for the top post. I am specifically referring to the verbal bashing and bickering going on between the incumbent Wanita MIC head and the contenders, captured so vividly by the print media.

All three have resorted to wild allegations and accusations, each trying to prove her own worth through damaging remarks, not realising they are only bringing disrepute to themselves.

I am totally appalled that these women do not realise that eventually, there will have to be losers and only one winner. I find it rather odd that our politicians are still immature in their mentality and cannot accept a contest gracefully.

I am no veteran in politics to lecture on what politics is or should be but by reason and logic, we know winning and losing are part of the game and that is what politics is, a wicked game. My sincere request to the incumbent and the contenders is this - fight with all your might, but don't deviate from the original vision which is to serve, not to seek wanton power.

Personally, I think Wanita MIC could do with a change but that does not mean the current leader is incapable. We are in the era of globalisation and everything around us is constantly evolving. To meet the new challenges, perhaps a new Wanita leader is what we, the Indian women, need.

I am not propagating that the old is good and the new would be better but we will never know until it happens.
