One cannot help but note the Burmese junta's significant contribution to Asean's credibility. They have convincingly exposed Asean and its foreign ministers for the fools that they are.
Without any supportive evidence that Asean is serious about dealing with the Burmese junta firmly and decisively, Foreign Affairs Minister Syed Hamid Albar's continued political rhetoric on Burma is meaningless, cheap and loose.
The ordinary Burmese citizen dies daily while Syed Hamid (and the other Asean foreign ministers) continue posturing in Cuckooland about 'possible impending changes' from a murderous regime.
Like the emperor's new clothes, Asean's Burma policy is vacuous. As it stands, it only serves the greed of Asean businessmen and politicians who have no compunction about breaching social responsibility nor have any commitment towards democracy and good governance.
Syed Hamid and Asean should spare us their bleating of earnest efforts and just give us decisive action.
