When I read the letter Muslims shouldn't fall in love with non-believers by A Muslim Woman, I experienced a deep and profound sadness and I must say that I am feeling sorry for A Muslim Woman.

As one who was born to a Muslim couple and was raised in Kelantan, a place they call 'Serambi Mekah', I think A Muslim Woman is a bigot and if she is not, then I don't know what bigotry means.

I also detect the audacity in which she proudly proclaims that Muslims are a breed apart besides the righteousness in her attitude in insisting that others be classified as 'non-believers' (according to her definition/interpretation of the Quran, never mind what the authentic real teachings of Islam say). It made me shudder in disbelief.

I am pondering what will it take for us in Malaysia and in Islamic world to celebrate our diversity and accept our fellow human beings as brothers and sisters standing shoulder to shoulder as equal, dignified human beings deserving the same treatment that I expect.

I think Muslims have done themselves great disservice in demanding 'non-believers' accept and respect them though the same cannot be demanded of them in return. This is hypocrisy as its best and if this continues, it sends a message of exclusivity, superiority and bigotry (to name a few). Why in the world would anyone want to be associated with these?
