I refer to the malaysiakini report Isu komen Presiden: Mukhriz akan temui Hishammuddin .

The impending disciplinary action against Mukhriz Mahathir points to one thing - that Umno is breeding 'Yes men' within its party.

I was utterly disgusted when I read the statement by Umno Youth chief Hishammuddin Hussein Onn that Mukhriz 'had crossed the line' and his actions cannot be tolerated by the party leadership.

Why this action against Mukhriz, may I ask? For saying that there was nothing new in the presidential address made during the opening of the Umno general assembly and that it was similar to the one Abdullah Ahmad Badawi delivered last year?

I felt the same way too. Perhaps Abdullah used the same speechwriters who did a rush job. We all used to look forward to the speech by Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was Umno president. And we know that Mahathir writes his own speeches.

I would like to ask Hishammuddin and the rest of the Umno leadership this: Isn't Mukhriz, an adult, a tax-paying Malaysian citizen and an Umno leader, entitled to his opinion?

Does he have to be a 'Yes man' like Hishammuddin and the rest of those in the Umno supreme council? Do all Umno members have to agree with the president all the time? Isn't there room for dissenting views?

Umno claims to be democratic but apparently no one can say anything negative about the president, even if he does not do a good job. Abdullah claims that he believes in press freedom, but malaysiakini was not allowed to cover the assembly officially.

What do they have to say to that?
