We desire good balance of our lives, we desire most of the ability to stay afloat while our ship sails in a rough sea. Our nation had gone through financial crises in its own ways, and we have gone through severe political storms since 1969.
Sadly, still, the power of governing this nation has been lopsided in BN's favour. The last obvious chance for us to be ruled well was in 1969 but somehow, the riots that year set everything backwards. Dr Mahathir Mohamad prophesised an eventual balance of power in the country will occur just a year before his desire to have a developed Malaysia, that is in 2019.
Strangely, it happened to Taiwan after 50 years of governance. The Kuomintang lost power to a nobody named Chen Shui Pen, setting Taiwan economic position back for more than eight years behind the other three dragons, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Korea. President Chen messed up Taiwanese economics the minute he took control.
He lost his senses and employed those advisors who ruined his credibility. He was simply overjoyed with the power he just got, and he abused his power to such an extent that state-owned companies were stripped and shared amongst his 'vultures of finance'. He cleverly enriched himself but putting all the blame on those aides he employed. That is what we observed in Taiwan.
Back to Malaysian scene, we have this Pak Lah whom we endear. He moved us by wielding his clean image and he was the PM who, with great courage, was willing to listen to the people more directly. But yet - within less than three years - his own son-in-law was accused outright by the ex-PM of meddling with the powers of the PM.
But Pak lah refuses to go down in the history books as just a follower of the ex-PM. He changed his course of governance and he steadily built up his power base. Now he is safe to do what he deems best for the nation. Pak Lah has also shown his determination to repair the damaged diplomacy with our neighbours and with the great powers of the West.
I wonder if he is really able to stick to what he has pledged. But I pray for his conscience and for his ability to keep this ship afloat and for his ability to stay clean despite the accusations against him and his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin.
In the real world, we note, the power of governing a country is never easy alone. You need to do with a team of powerful leaders for each and every portfolio. We shall soon see how Pak Lah has fared in the coming general election.
But for us commoners, we just hope the tolls will be removed, and the errors made previously, rectified. We want no more such careless mistakes such as claimed by the ex-PM that he 'was not aware' of the details of the highway concessions as though his own works minister had lied to him.
I trust the PM is planning well ahead and his 'goodies' are being dished out slowly. He will need to be a just and clean leader that will win him a great place in Malaysian history. I pray for the PM to be just and fair to all (not just for his clan) and he will be swift to deal with the 'boy' who had damaged his reputations as Mr Clean.
Looking forward to great fortune as the power of true democracy will not arrive until 2019), we pray that Pak Lah will choose a right successor for the nation. We must go beyond the boundaries of racial limits, and be brave to confront all fallacies.
Truly, I wish PM will stay alert and act smartly to steer this treasured ship in the right direction and captain us out of the mess the former PM had created.
