I refer to the malaysiakini report Technical glitches' delayed PKR Youth polls .
The suspicion of election irregularities lingers as the PKR Youth voter list went missing thus resulting in a delay of the PKR Youth elections. Could this be an act of deliberate sabotage?
Incompetence prevails as the missing voter list indicates that prior checks and balances were not carried out when preparing for a party elections. On a more sinister note, the missing voter list lends credence to the suspicion of the creation of phantom voters.
Readers would have remembered that it was only a few days prior when PKR Youth secretary Johari Yassin reported that 100 candidates out of 132 nominees pulled out from the race for the exco positions due to Anwar Ibrahim's interference.
Moreover, the delay in announcing the results of PKR's main elections certainly does suggest some sort of 'shadow play' with the real voting patterns. There is lack of transparency.
Even for the three by-elections at Batu Talam, Machap and Ijok, when the voter turn out ranged from 6,695 (Batu Talam) to 7,151 (Machap) and 10,195 (Ijok), all the results were tabulated and announced to contesting parties and the press on the same evening itself.
Going by numbers alone, the PKR elections is a small matter when compared to the three by-elections held recently. So why must the official results be delayed overnight when it is such a simple internal party vote count? The Election Commission does not need to be present. Unless there is come form of 'results engineering' taking place, there really isn't any reason for the
tallying of PKR's votes to be delayed.
While Anwar and the other presidential candidate Abdul Rahman Othman backed off from contesting the PKR's elections, it has become pretty obvious that Anwar remains the 'de facto' head, and he certainly didn't have any qualms flaunting it. He remains the real power behind the scenes of a party amidst the withdrawal of his one-time tennis partner and friend of 20 years, K Nallakaruppan.
It would seem that every step taken by Anwar and PKR at the elections was done to pave the way to install Anwar as Number One. One PKR delegate was even quoted as saying: 'We can always call for EGM next year and make Anwar the president'.
