Recent incidents in Glasgow and London really made me sad and worried.

And I got really angry when I saw on TV a witness giving his recollections of the event and explaining that one of the captured men in Glasgow shouted 'Allah, Allah' as if such atrocious acts are perpetuated in Islam.

Oh please. This is not what Islam promotes. Islam by its nature, teachings and principles is centred around peace and loving. Even its name derived from the Arabic 'fiklun' or verb 'salama' which means to make peace, with the noun usage of it as 'Islam' or 'Salam'.

When Muslims meet with each another, we exchange greetings with the 'Assalamua'alikum' and 'Wa'alikum Salam' which mean 'Peace be upon your, all' and in reply, 'May peace be upon you, all too'.

The singular greeting is 'Assalamu'alaika' (Peace be upon you), for males and 'Assalamu'alaiki' for women. But we are all encouraged to use 'Assalamu'alikum' as 'kum' means the 'jamak' or the plural that includes all the others.

See, even in the basic greetings we are encouraged in Islam to be generous and peace-loving - not only for the person whom we are meeting with but also for the rest of us as a whole.

The terrible incidents in northern UK last week and their motives should be condemned by all. They are an antithesis of what Islam is all about.
