I refer to the malaysiakini column Minorities under political Islam (Part 1) by Helen Ang. Where Ang read her history is a mystery, especially when she claims that Lee Kuan Yew was the most capable leader the minorities ever had in Malaysia.

Perhaps she has not heard of the Seenivasagam brothers from Ipoh who made a career out of challenging the then Alliance Government. Nor does she seem to have heard about CV Devan Nair, Lee Kuan Yew's most obedient civil servant and MP in the Dewan Rakyat from 1964-1969.

If Singapore had not separated from Malaysia in 1965, then what had happened in Nigeria would have repeated itself in Malaysia- a civil war would have engulfed the country. Lee Kuan Yew is as much to blame as the Malaysian leaders are for the split.

After all, he repeatedly played the Chinese chauvinist card.

How does Lee treat his Malay and Indian minorites in Singapore today? The Malays cannot even join their armed forces. For to quote the present prime minister (LKY's son), they cannot be trusted because they are Muslim.

He said that in his capacity as the republic's Defence Minister while visiting a mosque in Singapore. Let's not talk of political Islam. Let's have a look at the unadulterated Chinese chauvinism in Singapore today.
