I refer to the letter Unadulterated chauvinism in S'pore by M Ahmad.
I happened to know CV Devan Nair during the tumultuous times in Malaysia in the early 60s. He was, of course, the most capable and trusted leader of Lee Kuan Yew. He not only left behind the legacy of what the DAP is today (Lim Kit Siang was his secretary) but went on to become the president of Singapore.
Fast back track to Malaysia. Please tell me since has Malaysia had a head of government who was Malaysian but not Malay? Or maybe even a deputy prim minister?
But of course, the latter post is such is the risk as nowadays (one has had a black eye) that no one - minority or non-minority - would want the post.
And don't tell me he of Nair's subsequent fall from grace because then I will have to tell you stories of the Tunku and his human frailties. CV Devan Nair was hard done by.
