I refer to the letter Makkal Osai incident an opportunity . I couldn't agree more with the writer that the drastic action of the Internal Security Ministry to suspend temporarily Makkal Osai certainly does not go with the Christian principle of forgiveness.
In the public's eye, this action may convey the message that the Christians have instigated a sentimental commotion with the Hindus, with the principle of an "'eye for an eye'. What may seem true from the Islamic view may not necessarily be the same from the Christianity view of extending grace and mercy.
Worse still, not many Christian leaders to come forward to give their views on this issue. I urge Christian NGOs like the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) to come forward to give their views on this. I know that the Roman Catholics and the Council of Christian Churches (CCM) have given their views, but the more Christian organisations come forward, the better.
Why should we allow people from other religions, particularly politicians, to dictate to us what our Christian view should be? It also seems odd to me that Umno Youth calls not just for a temporarily suspension, but for an indefinite suspension of Makkal Osai until the government is satisfied that the paper can give an assurance that it will not repeat its mistake. But Umno Youth has been in the past known to be very zealous in promoting Islamic and Malay interests.
With regards to this particular Makkal Osai incident, what do you think Jesus would have done if He were alive today?
