I appreciate Tsu Nam's comment in [#1]Hopes renewed in new CJ[/#] (Dec 7). However, the crux of the matter is Malaysians want true justice, in spirit and in word. While we welcome the appointment of a new CJ, we must not miss what the nation really needs. The CJ is only a vehicle for the administration of justice.
The people cannot take for granted that the new CJ can uphold justice in its real sense, knowing the state of politics in the country where the executive is ruling supreme. The vigilance of the people is vital in monitoring meticulously how the new CJ performs. The Mahathirian regime is hostile to a truly independent judiciary, especially for cases involving political leaders, as typified by the infamous Anwar Ibrahim case.
Malaysians must watch closely the proceedings of such cases, detect any manipulation, tricky deceit, abuse of prerogatives and discretion, miscarriage of justice, strangulation of the judicial process, intimidation of witnesses, blackmailing of judges and so forth and so on, so that judges will be honest and loyal to justice and truth instead of blindly obeying their political masters.
When the executive is corrupt, the people must arise one and all to redeem it, put it back on course. Justice is the central foundation for true unity and well being of human society. Interference by unscrupulous politicians is a grave danger and must be stopped through people power.
