I refer to the letter Budget: Hey, what about us in Egypt?

Rosli is a JPA scholar who was sponsored to study medicine in Egypt. His whole education, accommodation and travelling expenses were paid for by the tax money of both bumiputeras and non-bumiputeras.

But rather than being grateful for this opportunity that does not exist anywhere else in this world, he chose to criticise our beloved and fair prime minister for not increasing his allowance of US$220 (RM840) per month.

This is a prime example of how a lot of bumiputeras are expecting to be spoon-fed by the government. If money is so tight, go get a student loan or do some part-time jobs. I have friends that have more than a US$200,000 debt upon finishing medical school in America.

I came from a middle-class family and have always wanted to be a doctor. I studied extremely hard and did well in my SPM but alas, I did not get that elusive JPA scholarship because I was a third- generation non-bumiputera Malaysian.

Not to be discouraged, my parents took out student loans that came out to hundreds of thousands of ringgit to pay for my education. I worked hard, saved a lot and am now a practicing physician in America. And I am still paying off my student loans each month. The absolutely most incredible part here is if I were to return to Malaysia, I would have to serve the government (that spent RM0 on my education after secondary school) for four years.

I am still waiting for the day when I will trade my Malaysian passport for an American one. And when that day comes, it is your loss Malaysia, not mine.
