I refer to the Malaysiakini report Uthaya risks heart attack: family .
As soon as I had read the above report, I drove to the Taiping Hospital. I saw Hindraf supporters waiting outside the hospital block where P Uthayakumar was warded. When I approached the group waiting there, it seemed that they were extremely upset and dearly wanted to see him.
As the supporters were waiting outside at the car park, he suddenly he appeared near a window and courageously waved his hands. At that moment, it was really difficult to express the supporters’ feelings.
Before that, family members were allowed to enter and visit Uthaya. The photo at left was taken then. According to Uthaya’s mother, he refused to end his hunger strike even though they insisted.
Furthermore, the supporters waiting were incensed when they heard that Uthaya was handcuffed to his hospital bed and not allowed to move around. He was surrounded by policemen and treated worse than a terrorist.
The question is does Uthaya deserve all this just because he fought for the Indian community, a community that has been downtrodden for 50 years?
