Barely two weeks away from election day, a new menace has reared its ugly face. It is nepotism. So many new faces in our election which would have been a good thing except for the fact that many of them are either sons, daughters, son-in-laws or daughter-in-laws of our present leadership. Let's call a spade a spade. This is clearly an abuse of democracy.

The people of Malaysia are being taken for a joyride. How many times we have heard of young people with ideals wanting to get into politics but can't because the government had rejected their application to register a new political party? The grim reality is that new political parties are not allowed entry into our political arena.

This means that if you are interested in politics, you have to join an already existing political party and work yourself up, only to find yourself being sidelined in favour of top politician's family members who have less experience and ability than yourself.

Personally, I think that Malaysian democracy is an oxymoron. Many Malaysians actually have other concerns rather than the just the ones being highlighted by the present political scenario. The sad fact is that we have no left-wing parties in Malaysia. Why? That's not fair because I am a left- wing liberal and there is no party in Malaysia that has adopted policies of the left.

In Malaysia, anything left is considered to resemble communism and is thus forbidden. I was born left-handed but was forced by my parents and my schoolteacher to write with my right hand which I still do until this day. Thus I resent it when the Malaysian government enforces right-brain views upon its population.

Malaysians deserve more left wing politicians. Instead, such people are jailed under the ISA like the Hindraf leaders. Left wing politics emphasises the rights of the common man as being superior to the rights of the nation as a whole. Left wing politics supports the rights of the worker instead of the big businesses.

Left wing politics have been omitted from our election and haven't been allowed a platform to contest on. So basically, nothing will change because they are no left wing parties contesting.

Malaysians should ask themselves - is anything going to improve? Are the police going to continue trampling on our rights with impunity while they dukung their political masters? Are Malaysians from the lower rung of society going to continue receiving meagre wages because the upper class of society is unable to do without their servants and cheap labour?

Is Malaysia now a two class society where the restaurant owner drives a BMW and lives in Damansara Heights while his workers are forced to sleep on the tables and on the floor or at best 20 people living per house and being worked 12 hours a day receiving pathetically scanty wages, no overtime pay, no bonus, no holidays, no EPF, no insurance and so forth?

They wouldn't even get time off to vote but the boss will, of course, vote to ensure the status quo goes on indefinitely.
