MIC, MCA and Umno, still reeling from their shocking performance in the recent elections, still fail to learn one important lesson : the time for race-based politics have ended. Malaysia is no longer defined by a person's race or religion. We are Malaysians, one and all.
A political party representing Malaysians must see that. A citizen of Malaysia must have all rights and privileges of the nation and provide the responsibilities that go with it. Race-based politics only alienate and segregate people.
The government of Malaysia must show its people that they are serious in building the nation. We don't have to send a man to space to be proud Malaysians - we can still stand tall by achieving simple goals.
Look at India which is making progress by leaps and bounds in comparison because they opened themselves to foreign markets and allowed their citizens to hold dual citizenships. It’s the simple things that bring in great success.
We have great infrastructure and world-class facilities. Now is the time to use them. Show Malaysians overseas that have promoted Malaysia that we value their contributions by allowing them multiple nationalities. Allow foreign spouses to work and contribute to the local economy.
Nation-building is a long term plan. Nation-building does not simply mean building bigger and taller buildings. It means having a long-term plan for what Malaysia needs to achieve. This must benefit all Malaysians.
Poverty must be reduced and finally eradicated regardless of race. Law enforcement bodies must understand that they have a heavy burden on their shoulders to serve the public as with the government. They are the servants of the people. They are not the masters.
For far too long, the elected government thought itself to be the master of all Malaysia. You forgot that you were chosen by the people. And now you have been forcibly fed the humble pie by the very same people. You represent us. We who voted for you. Never forget that.
The elected opposition parties have a very heavy burden. This is your chance to prove yourself. You will get one chance and one chance only. Fail us and you dash all hopes of every Malaysian that voted for you. No more pressure.
To many, these past weeke have been the hope and dream of many Malaysians for decades. It’s time to move ahead - finally.
