The Malaysian political, economical and social structure is undergoing a transformation in the year 2008. Let’s analyse it individually and predict the outcome.

In terms of politics, Sept 16 is seen as an important date. Not because it is the formation of Malaysia but because that is the date given by the alternative government to take over the leadership of Malaysia. It is a known fact that the present government has lost its glamour and vigour and is weak and fragile .

The internal squabbles which were silent and forced to be silent by a leader of 20 years are now being exposed. The component parties are pointing their fingers at Umno for being arrogant and being insensitive to the needs of other races.

The premier of today should be credited for this new democracy. If the premier with 20 years experience was still around, nothing like this would have happened. The fanaticism would have grown among all races and race-based politics would be widely used.

In terms of economics, the Umno cronies have become rich. The non-Umno, non-MIC and non- MCA are struggling to survive. Look at the kampung , the new villages and the estates. How many of them have decent homes after 50 years of independence? There are Malays who still use the river water to cook and bathe.

This is Malaysia after 50 years of independence. What has the premier of 20 years done? He created Malay businessmen who have now lost their money and are commoners. What happened to them? The Indians are pushed against the wall and they have no where to go other than to bounce back which they did on March 8.

The denial and arrogance of MIC leaders on the poverty of the Indians is a shame on these leaders. Not one MIC leader has openly challenged the system. The unity of the Chinese is something all the other races should follow. Better still, there should be unity of all the races. After all, we all fought for independence and one of the conditions for independence was for all the races to agree to the terms and conditions.

The Malays could not have done it without the Chinese and Indians. Independence was fought for by all - not by any particular race alone. Understand history before speaking.

Looking at the social structure, the transformation from race-based politics is something to be appreciated. Why should we known as Malays, Chinese and Indians? Let us be known as Bangsa Malaysia. Why should we fill up forms which require us to state our race and religion? What has that got to do with the development of the country?

If there is anyone who can convince me of doing so, I shall be happy to write another letter and apologise. Don’t tell me its for the quota and all that nonsense. I don’t buy that. Let us endeavour to get the best into the system irrespective of race and religion. Do not discriminate.

Concluding the above three areas is not going to be easy as there are many other issues as well - transparency in promotions, transparency in awarding scholarships, transparency in privileges and many more. Are we ready for these changes?
