I refer to the reports that there are moves to woo PKR assembly persons in Perak to cross over to the BN to see the fall of the PAS-DAP-PKR led government in Perak. This is where principles in politics come to the fore.

There have been moves to scare the Malay electorate of Perak that an agreement was signed by the menteri besar of Perak which purportedly states that Perak shall be an Islamic state.

Most of these movers and schemers are just up to nothing fruitful because that's what they have been paid and directed to do ie, to cause a misunderstanding and the eventual crossing over to the BN by the Pakatan Rakyat assembly persons.

We all know that the religion of the federation of Malaysia is Islam and unless that is being threatened, we have nothing to fear about.

It has been entrenched in our federal constitution as one of the main tenets of our supreme law therefore all this scare tactics are just aimed at those who are unable to form an opinion ie, the gullible folk in the rural areas who keep buying whatever stories that they are supposed to believe in.

If strong principles are adhered to by these politicians, then no form of coaxing can shake them from their stand but sad to say many have a price on their heads. This is what makes them untrustworthy to the non-Malay electorate.

If the DAP and the Hindraf are kafir, what then are MCA, MIC and the Gerakan? If PAS cooperates with the DAP and the PKR, then what about Umno co-operating with the MCA, MIC and the Gerakan? Aren't they non-Muslims and hence kafir?

This is where we want to see principled Malay politicians whom everyone can trust with their vote. Someone who would not sell us out for the ‘right price’.

The Perak government needs to respond to this negative propaganda by going on a road show to explain to the people that they are here to stay and will fulfill their promises to the best of their ability during their term in office.

If the Malay electorate can be so easily deceived, then only the corrupt and greedy will get to rule and when they assume power and go on their charade, the poor folk will remain as ignorant as ever because that's the way the leaders want them to be.

For this, I must say that the people of Kelantan are very reliable and independent-minded. They cannot be easily swayed by mere rhetoric and racialism which has become very common after the March 2008 elections.

The Malays have got to note that their safeguards in the constitution is here to stay and no Malay leader in his right mind would want to take those safeguard away. No Malay leader would have the legitimate right to lead without the support from the non-Malays who are part and parcel of this country and are here to stay.

Principled Malay leaders would not allow schemers who move around using all the old tricks in the book to scare Malaysians into thinking that they are only in this country by invitation and they can be flushed out if they so decide to do.

It should be noted that it took all races to build the Malaysia that we see today therefore racialism has got no room in today's Malaysia. But if it continues to be used as the clarion call for all those who believe in it to unite against the so-called ‘aliens’ in this country, then Malaysia had better be prepared to be distanced by the developing countries of the world.

If is so easy to divert the attention of the Malay electorate by coming up with some juicy sex story, can one now note how easy it would have been for the colonialists to deceive and rule? All it takes is a simple police report and a very highly docile and compliant police force full of officers who have multiple degrees but very little ability to think professionally and independently and the powerful individual will get to do whatever he or she pleases.

The power of the vote has caused all the truth to unfold (and all the worms to come out of the cans) therefore it is this tool that we thinking Malaysians must always use to keep all governments that are formed from now onwards to a simple majority government and never a 2/3rds majority government.

If this is constantly done, we will see a change in the mindset of the Malay electorate and their voting patterns as they slowly come out of their fear that their racial status is being threatened.

As for the non-Malay electorate, it will be a race-blind goal from now onwards as the recent elections have brought about the realisation that their ‘trusted’ race-based parties are on the way out.
