The amount of traffic in and around of the ‘Intelligent City’ of Cyberjaya is increasing daily, and we residents and commuters are paying the price. Firstly, the planning approval for the growing number of office buildings in Cyberjaya seems to have completely ignored the need for off-street parking.

Of the many new buildings here, none have ample parking provided within the buildings themselves – a clear failure of building design and approval. Consequently, on-street parking is now completely out of hand.

Vehicles are parked irresponsibly just about everywhere, particularly on all corners at major junctions and on pedestrian crossing areas – all on yellow lines! Cars are littered everywhere and in many cases obstruct the view of drivers at junctions.

Cyberjaya is rapidly becoming one big parking lot!

What is even worse for those of us living in Cyberjaya is the continuing litany of traffic accidents. One major junction (Persiaran Ceria and Linkaran Cyber Point Barat) has seen serious accidents occurring weekly – in some periods almost daily.

It is only luck that no one has been killed so far but this is clearly only a matter of time. The culprits are drivers, mostly students from the two major local universities, who drive at excessive speed and do not stop at major junctions, fail to signal or adhere to any semblance of road discipline or rules.

Insufficient and poorly placed traffic and warning signs add to the deficiencies. Letters have been written by us to the Yang di Pertua of the Sepang Municipal Council [MPS] (who is now located here in Cyberjaya in a new, purpose-built building) and to the local police.

However, no response or acknowledgment has been received from anyone for our complaints. We are sure that many of the other stakeholders here in Cyberjaya have similar concerns.

Whilst this carnage continues at the junction mentioned above, traffic lights have been installed at a relatively quiet and minor junction in another area of Cyberjaya, much to our total disbelief and frustration. This junction in question does not appear to have suffered any accidents at all!

We have photographic evidence of many of the accidents that have occurred here and have offered to make them available to the MPS, but no one has shown any interest at all.

As concerned citizens of Cyberjaya, we insist that action be taken immediately to resolve this increasing danger to drivers and pedestrians in Cyberjaya.
