I refer to the Malaysiakini report Khairy: Husam longlai digertak DAP isu hudud .

All it takes to cause anxiety amongst the Chinese is to just say the word hudud. But the ethnic Chinese and the rest of the non-Malays know that such a set of laws are just not practical for a country like Malaysia.

Knowing this all too well, the aspirant to the throne of Umno Youth used it to his advantage despite acknowledging that he, too, will push for hudud if he had the support and numbers in Parliament. This are politicians debating in a place and forum where the crowd will want to hear such promises and as politicians, they will say what the crowd wants to hear.

Is it feasible for such laws to apply? That is what the Chinese must ask the Malay leaders who make such statements when they speak. But instead, the community gets scared immediately and this is used to the fullest advantage by Umno,MCA, Gerakan and MIC.

They know all to well that the oldest trick in the book will always work for a gullible society like ours. They know that with such a threat, the Chinese will return to the fold of the BN and all will be the same as it was before ie, ‘you scratch my back and I scratch yours’. Such statements are also played to hilt by the controlled press in the hope of bringing the people back to the BN barn again.

The Chinese seem to be very concerned about the implementation of hudud laws by PAS but why have they been quiet to the BN's slow Islamisation of the administrative process? Isn't this a clear case which the BN used to its advantage?

PAS is running two state governments and one for the past 18 years. Have there been cases of anyone being amputated or stoned for offences committed? Have the Chinese in Kelantan been stopped from consuming pork and alcohol? PAS knows for a fact that they can never form the government at the centre without the help of others. The new coalitiono Pakatan Rakyat is a partnership of equals and this is far braver than what the MCA and Gerakan are used to under the strong dictatorial leadership of their superiors, Umno in the BN.

What the Umno Youth leadership aspirant has done is that he has used the oldest and the best trick in the book which is 100 percent effective. Say the hudud word and the they will run back to us and we can continue with our old ways again

Looking at it logically, we are in between India and China and in the north we are neighbours with Thailand which is a haven for the Westerners, their culture and their investments and towards the south we are neighbours with Singapore which is a melting pot like us.

By being an Iran or a Taliban-like government in the centre of all this modernity and hospitality of Asia, we will stand to loose. I am sure PAS knows that and one is also sure that PAS knows that only with the cooperation of the non-Malays can Malaysia sustain her compatibility with Asia and the world.

Likening Malaysia with biblical times cannot see us compete with our neighbours, what more with people who will be limbless due to the offences that they have committed!

The Chinese must ask the MCA to speak up and demand that they be treated as equal partners in the BN instead being scared the moment the word hudud is used. PAS is not subservient to the DAP or to the PKR, it is an equal partner and that is the politics of the new coalition which has the BN very worried because it will never ever allow its coalition partners the same right.

The Chinese voters of Kuala Trengganu must stand united with their Kelantanese counterparts and show the rest of the peninsular that they will not be cowed with such scare tactics anymore.
