With the exception of some real principled politicians who can be found on both sides of the divide in parties like Umno, PAS and the DAP, the rest, one would say, are the worst. The term used before was ‘gutter politicians’ but they should be called ‘political prostitutes’.

It is really appalling to note that some of them would say that they were forced to sign resignation letters in escrow because it was done by duress. This request would not be needed if such politicians have some principles and honour as representatives of the people.

Jumping ship when the going gets tough instead of helping the captain helm it through the rough seas seems to be what our ‘YBs’ are made out of.

It is about time that we, the people, began to judge politicians for what they really are, ie, scoundrels who will seize any opportunity as long as it benefits them.

We must throw our support behind principled politicians who have through thick and thin stayed on on the same political platform that they had started from. It is very disturbing to note that every Malaysian politician - with the exception of the principled ones - have a price on their heads.

The people wanted to see a change in administration because of rhetoric by the same corrupted administration that refuses to change its corrupt ways and made Malaysians accept corruption as a culture.

But what we see are ‘political prostitutes’ who have been elected to office because the good candidates did not want to be associated with politics at all. Thus, we have to make do with such hopeless politicians all in the hope that they will work tirelessly to see that change can take place.

But sadly, we elected many who had just wanted to try their luck - just like how we try ours when we go to the numbers forecast outlets.

Anti-hopping laws must be enacted by the few principled politicians to ensure that such a habit does not become a norm in the future of politics in this country. We, the people, need to start by becoming mature by cutting across bipartisan lines for the sake of the country.

We have to learn to disagree and respect that we disagree for only then can we see a mature political sphere in Malaysia. Until then, it is nothing but ‘prostitution’ at its best. Honest politicians must learn how to fight the system by taking on a court battle if they feel that they have nothing to hide and have not done any wrong.

If they have been framed, then they must fight to clear their name instead of running of to another ‘madame’ who promises better prospects for them in her brothel.

Our politicians talk about, religion, values, principles and morals but with the exception of a few good and principled ones, do they have any to start with? The Perak government should exercise its right to dissolve the state assembly and call for a snap election with the blessings of the sultan of Perak.

One presumes the sultan will honour the law as he was the fountain of wisdom and justice who was at the pinnacle of our legal system. The total dependence on the federal system of administration has created a very archaic way in which state governments are run.,

We have to depart from this mentality and make all the states examples of good governance so that when the administrators aspire to come to the federal level, they have good principles and values in them.

It can be seen that from March 2008 onwards, we, the people, have to set the tone for these politicians to follow. It should always be that the government must always be afraid of the people and not the people afraid of the government as the government is made of individuals whom we, the people, had put there.

We must cherish our right to free speech and assembly and must go against politicians who seek to muzzle these freedoms by amendments to the law and empowering the police.

We need to keep kicking politicians out until we get a government that is principled and trustworthy and capable of leading and not continuously practising divide and rule.

We need a government that unites all the races and discriminates against none and ultimately we need a government that cares for us. And we are the ones that will determine who governs us.
