A day after telling a coroner's inquest that he had no romantic ties with dead drama actress K Sujatha, her employer S Vell Paari today testified that he had spent lavishly on her.

Continuing his testimony this afternoon before coroner Mohd Fauzi Che Abu, Vell Paari said he had paid RM200,000 in cash for Sujatha's apartment at Sangsuria Condominium in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

This was used to settle half of Sujatha's RM400,000 loan for the posh condominium.

Questioned by deputy public prosecutor Geethan Ram Vincent, who is assisting Mohd Fauzi, Vell Paari added he had also financed her medical treatments in India and had accompanied her twice to India.

He also said that he had taken Sujatha and her family to Perth, Australia before .

Asked by Geethan if it was normal for him to be generous, Vell Paari said he had also helped out other employees previously.

He said that he had given financial aid like housing loans and deposits for some of his staff who worked for him. He has business interests locally as well as in India and Australia.

Asked to list a few examples, Vell Paari said he had once paid a housing deposit worth RM70,000 for a staff.

He also said that he had given financial aid worth 250,000 Australian dollars to two of his chief executive officers and a financial controller based in Australia.

Vell Paari, who is the son of MIC president S Samy Vellu, was testifying in the inquest probing into the mysterious death of Sujatha.

Yesterday, Vell Paari was asked if he had ever engaged in a romantic relationship with Sujatha as alleged but the 46-year-old CEO denied it.

"I had no (romantic) relationship with her. I only cared for her as an employer," he said, adding that he also cared for her as a friend.

During the testimony, Geethan also showed a photograph Vell Paari and his wife which was taken from Sujatha's house.

"She must have obtained it herself," answered Vell Paari.

Then a second photo of him and his wife was shown but this photo appeared to be torn when found in Sujatha's house. It has then been pieced together and taken as evidence.

Asked if he had given this second photo to Sujatha, Vell Paari said: "the picture was on my table and she wanted to know if she could have it so I gave it to her".

It was also learnt that Sujatha was close to Vell Paari's wife Shaila Nair.

According to him, Sujatha had attended functions with him and his wife, the last being just days before she had consumed paraquat.

Tomorrow, Vell Paari's first cousin, Dr SP Sakthiveloo who was with the former and Sujatha when she was admitted to the Klang Hospital, will be testifying.
