The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today recorded statements from four members of the Rights and Privileges Committee which suspended the menteri besar and six state executive councillors from the Perak Legislative Assembly.

bn perak state exco 180209 According to Bernama , the four - Loke Chee Yan (state assemblyperson for Kepayang), Ong Boon Piow (Tebing Tinggi), Sum Cheok Leng (Bercham) and Chan Ming Kai (Simpang Pulai) - had their statements recorded at the Perak MACC headquarters in Ipoh.

The committee, chaired by Speaker V Sivakumar, had adopted the decision following a complaint lodged by state assemblyperson for Canning, Wong Kah Woh, against the seven Barisan Nasional elected representatives citing contempt of the assembly for having allegedly accepted their appointments unconstitutionally.

All the four assemblypersons had their statements recorded for between 20 and 30 minutes by the investigating team of officers from the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Another member of the committee, state assemblyperson for Selinsing, Husin Din, was questioned by the MACC at his residence on March 17 while Sivakumar gave his statement at the official residence of the Perak menteri besar on Feb 26.

The committee had suspended Menteri Besar Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir from the assembly for 18 months and the six executive councillors for 12 months.

MACC officers declined to comment on their investigation.

Perak has been plunged into political turmoil since the BN took over the state government in February following the defection of several Pakatan Rakyat representatives.
